At the Christie (Manchester, United Kingdom) we are offering a PhD position (3 years) for a radiation oncologist, that has nearly finished the training as a radiation oncologist.
PhD Project title: Avoiding cardiac toxicity in lung cancer patients treated with curative-intent radiotherapy to improve survival
The overall aim of this project is to investigate if there is a correlation between the amount of radiotherapy given to the heart and the subsequent death of lung cancer patients treated with curative-intent radiotherapy. Specifically we will:

1. Investigate the effect of radiotherapy on heart sub-structures by:
• retrospective analysis of large amounts of existing radiotherapy imaging data and cardiac risk factors
• prospective analysis of cardiac imaging and blood biomarkers

2. Define heart dose constraints and heart sparing treatment strategies
